Helping Afghan Immigrants and Refugees Thrive in the U.S.

Economic empowerment of Afghan immigrants and refugees through entrepreneurship, micro-enterprises, business development, and start-ups is deeply rooted in the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities regardless of their background or circumstances.

Skills, Trade, and Apprenticeship Resource (STAR) Center Ending the Survival Job Stigma

The trauma caused by migration and the cultural, socio-economic, and labor market complexities of the United States have forced Afghan refugees and immigrants of varying skills and education levels into acute underemployment, better known as the “survival job”. In these jobs, the wages are lower than the average, require long hours, including weekends and night shifts, and are barely sufficient to cover monthly household expenditures of a mid-size Afghan family.

DII offers rewarding careers for talented technical, managerial, and support professionals.
